“Fun Atmosphere”

We just stayed at this resort for the last 2 weeks and had a great time. I’ve seen other reviews of bad service but I couldn’t disagree more. We had excellent service at every turn with this resort. We were always greeted with friendly faces and helpful attitudes. We booked this through our timeshare and added the All-Inlcusive option, which I highly recommend. The food is excellent and you get to eat at Villa del Arco in the plan as well. The food is pretty expensive otherwise. We have 2 boys who are picky eaters so all-inclusive works for us. This resort has a fun/fast waterslide that my 9 & 11 year old loved. The rooms were clean and in great condition. You do have to check in/out when you leave the property so they don’t allow anyone outside the hotel in. This is common at most nicer hotels in Mexico now and I personally like this as it makes the property safer. The other things we liked were that there were plenty of activities at the pool during the day, so you were never bored. This is not a relaxing pool area so if you are looking for a more quiet environment I would stay at Villa del Arco. They do have an adult pool but you can still hear everything up there. The only downside to this hotel was that they did not have laundry in the rooms. It’s a little older so they have a laudromat on site. Not a big deal if you’re only there 1 week but any longer and it’s kind’ve a pain. They charge you for the coins to use it too. This should be free in my opinion-especially if there not in the rooms like they are at Arco. This is a great resort, and the customer service is excellent. I’ve been to many resorts in Mexico and the people in Cabo San Lucas are top notch!!

“Great for kids”

We stayed at VDP for 5 nights (online deal, $489 all inclusive for 2 adults, one child). The resort was very nice, super clean. We were booked into a junior suite but were upgraded to a one bedroom on arrival – great with a small child. We went to the timeshare presentation (that was part of the deal) and it was longer than the 90 minutes they quoted, but wasn’t obnoxious high pressure. The pools were great. The kids pool was wonderful and they tested it everyday so I had confidence it was clean. Staff were friendly, although service during the lunch hour at the Bella restaurant by the pools was painfully slow, it was like we were interupting them. That aside, the food was great in that restaurant and at the Mexican night buffet we went to. Fabulous food. They accommodated our request for a late check out (we had to be out of the room, but could use the pool etc.) which was so nice. A bit far from downtown, but walkable. It was great that they have a supply of kids toys for the pool and beach. The room was really nice, the bed was hard, but not unbearable.

“Beautifully cared for with great service”

This resort, part of the Villa Group, is located in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. The location is good – close to Bucerias (town) and close enough to old Vallarta. The beach is good – clean, nice to walk and water that is very swimable. There are vendors on the beach but I didn’t find them as pushy as in Cabo.

The poolside service is great – lots of waiters who are friendly and speak English. The pools are beautiful – with varying depths for children. The grounds are well kept – nice plants and no trash. There is a towel service – they say you can only switch your towels 2x/day but I think they would let you do it as many times as you like. We kept our towels each evening so we could put them on our deck chairs early (put them out there 8-ish) to “reserve” your spot.
There are 3 restaurants on site – all are fairly good – but you are close enough to other choices that you don’t have to stay onsite. The breakfast buffet is pricey but quite good – and the view is lovely each morning.
There are activities each day and nearly every night. The Mexican-themed evening is fun, with dancing, skits and singing. The buffet is large and fairly good. They have several vendors there as well. There is water volleyball, aerobics, kids activities each day. There are sea kayaks, boogie boards, etc. available too.
Rooms are well appointed and well kept by the maid service. One day we had all kinds of animals made out of towels which our daughter enjoyed.
There is a “Mega” grocery store a short taxi or bus ride away where we got groceries for the week – you can cook or just have snacks to keep costs down. There is also a Wal*Mart a little ways further down the road.
We found our trip VERY relaxing – just what our family needed.

“Fantastic! Lodging Is a Great Value”

The first thing you need to know is that this is not a “regualr” resort with just hotel rooms. Each room/s have kitchens (or the smallest rooms have a mini-kitchen) and the rooms are nicer and usually bigger than your standard hotel room. There is a team of staff members that will ask you to go on a “time-share” tour. If you say no and tell them kindly but firmly leave me alone—they will not bother you. I told them I would love to see what they have to offer but I was not in position to purchase anything. I still was asked a lot of questions, I had breakfast with my “presenter”, I toured the amazing, beautiful, luxurious condos, sat for the hard sell, and then explained “I love your faciltiy but am not in the market right now.” Next, they gave me my 20% of card that entitled me to that discount on all food I bought at the resort and special prices for the tours/excursions offered at a on site office. If you said no to buying a time-share the tour operators will try to get you to see another resort. You can just say “no thank you” and book your excursions.

Now for the good stuff! We had the smallest room and it was still quite big. The decor was simple, but tasteful. We had a great view of the pool and a partial view of the bay. The pool is lovey. The beach is just steps away from the pool. Great lounge chairs, umbrellas, and side tables are brought to you by a beach attendant. There are daily activities you can choose to do. I loved the morning strecth class and adult volleyball on the beach. My teenaged daughter loved the Beach Party specialty dinner with a live band and small “show”. The specialty dinners are not cheap, but are a good value. We did not choose the all-inclusive option. We were on a tight budget so we made our breakfast in our small kitchen (took a taxi ot Mega), ordered lunch on the beach, and if we didn’t go to a speacial dinner at the resort we took evening trips (by bus) to PVR city or the outside fishing villages.This property is lovely for a family trip. The staff is extremely accomodating. The activites people and wait staff almost start to feel like “family”. We plan on going back, soon!

“Absolutely Fabulous Resort”

I’ve been here numerous times since 2005 and have a great time every time. The facilities are wonderful, the staff helpful and the views fantastic. I do like staying in Nuevo Vallarta because I can go downtown Puerto Vallarta or go to Bucerias which I think makes it more interesting. Also, it feels safe here with the extra security checks into the resort. There is no nightlife at the resort but that keeps it safe and quiet for those nights that you want to stay in. A couple of tips – to go downtown Puerto Vallarta, take the city buses there for about $2 versus $25 or so for a cab. Of course, take a cab back though if it’s late at night. Bucerias is a sleeping little town but I actually found some nightlife there this time. Shamrocks and the Drunken Duck were both a lot of fun. My only complaint is the push to get you to upgrade to the Elite card by going to a timeshare presentation. No is the answer for that one! Also, go to Mega resort by taxi to purchase food & drink and the bellman will be happy to carry up your supplies for the week. That will save you some money so you can afford some nice dinners out. Bringing the sea lion to the swimming pool during the week was very cool too. All in all, the resort staff will do everything to ensure you have a nice stay.

“Great Vacation!”

We had a great vacation at the Villa Del Palmar from February 25 to March 3, 2012. We love the authentic mexican feel to the property. We purchased the All Inclusive Meal and Drink Plan and were not disappointed. There was a great selection of food on the breakfast buffet and we usually got a freshly made omelette from the “cook to order” egg station. Lunch was good as well. For dinner, you have the option of some theme nights (Masquerade Night and Beach Party Night while we were there) which serve a buffet style meal with many choices. on “regular” nights, you have the option of a themed buffet or a sit down italian meal. We tried both and they were great. Service was impeccable – Gustavo was our favourite waiter. This is an older property, but very clean. Very Happy and will stay here again.

“Villa del palmar puerta Vallarta”

My boyfriend and I went for 10 days to this beautiful resort. The weather was pristine, blue skies, warm sunny weather, no humidity, just perfect everyday! We had an all Enclusive package that was wonderful. We don’t drink we eat 3 meals a day and the food was fabulous! Breakfast, lunch and dinner. The wait staff couldn’t be more caring and very courteous they make it so enjoyable. Cannot do enough for you and always with a smile. The front desk couldn’t be more helpful if you had any questions or needed anything. The place is spotless and the rooms are very comfortable, spacious and very clean. We loved it a d met several lovely people there who have been coming there for years and years. Very very relaxing, would go back anytime, it was wonderful.

- “Wonderful, wonderful!!”

We had a most enjoyable stay last week of Feb/2012–found this resort to be very impressive with its workmanship and landscaping-the pools were very inviting–beach time was very relaxing–food was excellent!! Dinner each night was a little tough as it was always late but worth it–the buffets were always fresh and pleantifull-The service was always with a smile and prompt-the comment about the tubs being high was also a comment I would post as I am only 5’2″-but this
was the only negative-we took the fast ferry to the isle and the slow ferry back–rented the cart,what a fun day we had! We read a few negative comments before we went and were alittle concerned about the food and service-realized instantly we were not going to have a negative experience–those comments were most likely due to the resort being new and getting adjusted-we found the resort ran a very efficient service to its guest–the employees were a very hard working group–we were also very impressed with the cleaniness of the whole resort- we were never bothered by any construction–would highly recommend a visit to this all inclusive resort–thank you,than you

- “You will NOT be disappointed!”

Oh my goodness! The reviews I’ve read tonight and the reviews I read before our trip had me perplexed. We returned, tonight, from a one week visit to the most relaxing, the cleanest, the friendliest resort we have ever visited. We have traveled extensively, including Europe and China, and have never had a better experience. We booked seven days, all-inclusive. Yes, we signed receipts, but SO WHAT? They obviously have a smooth inventory system working and never ran out of anything. All of the buffets offered delicious food, lots of fresh fruit, and the hot things were hot and the cold things were cold. We ordered off the Snack Bar menu many times from the pool and were not disappointed. The beach was beautiful, I snorkeled on morning, and didn’t see any fish, but did enjoy my swim. We took the “slow” ferry from next door to the hotel and had a lovely day snorkeling on the Isle. It was so convenient! Another day, we took a series of buses recommended by the concierge, and spent a wonderful day at Playa del Carmen. Spending a day at VdP is similar to a cruise….volleyball, soccer, pottery painting, yoga, water aerobics. The pools were clean, interesting shapes, and we always found plenty of chairs available. We took a couple of float “toys” and enjoyed just floating around the pool. The waiters would deliver drinks to the chaises or to the poolside. We tipped $1 for each trip a waiter made, $2 at most meals, $2 for our room maid. Everyone works hard at keeping the resort clean and beautiful. We will go back next year and probably many years after that.

- “Nice resort for a weekend away”

We wanted a few days away spent at the beach and this was a perfect location to do just that. Far from the rowdy crowds and the hotel zone. Quick ride to the city, shopping and resturants but far enough to feel like you are in a quiet area. Rooms were spacious with a beautiful patio overlooking the pool. Other reviews complained it was too noisy but we moved around and sat in different areas each day but never had a problem with the music. In some areas you could not even hear it. The staff was a bit slow but always extremely helpful. They all went out of their way to help us when ever needed. Other reviews complained of a smell in the room – but we never had a problem. And even with construction, we were never bothered by noise. My only complaint, which they can not change, is that the beach was not very long. They did a good job to clean the seaweed several times a day but we could not walk very far from the hotel. I strongly suggest the trip to Isla Mujeres. There is a car ferry right in front of the hotel but I recommend the shuttle you can pick up across from the hotel for 6 pesos that takes you to Puerto Juarez. This shuttle is faster and more comfortable. Rent a golf cart or moped and explore the island. Someone on the ferry said they were able to negotiate the rental rate down but they may require cash.

- “Beautiful, relaxing and remote place to unwind.”

We just finished a week-long stay. Overall, it was a great experience. We arranged shuttle service through the resort and it worked out smoothly when we arrived at the airport. You can save some money by arranging your own taxi…the resort shuttle is more than$50 dollars. When checking in, the resort provided a complimentary, 5-minute massage…very nice after a few hours of flying! We had a one-bedroom suite and it was very spacious with a huge balcony. We recommend a high floor in bldg 2 as it had a great view of the pool area and ocean. We looked at a room in bldg 4 but felt it was too remote. We also looked at a studio but didn’t like the layout. It looked and felt confining. The rooms come with a 4-cup pack of coffee for the coffee maker in the room but we recommend you bring or purchase coffee before arriving since the small store of the first floor doesn’t carry ground coffee and ordering it from the hotel is a ridiculous $4 US dollars. The room was very clean but the bed was a bit uncomfortable with strange sheets and pillows that are too big. About the food, we loved Casa Mia, the outdoor bar. Their tacos were amazing. Alejandro and Julio (head waiter, in case we have his name incorrect) were wonderful. Alejandro made us special cocktails that included mango and papaya martinis. We also loved the pool bartender who made us a great drink called the “dirty monkey.” The restaurant, “The Market” was not our favorite. We thought the atmosphere was too stuffy…we do recommend the tortilla soup, Veracruz fish and the Mexican breakfast. The fruit cocktail and fruit plate were terrific. The Market also held a theme event nightly. We think they could cut this down to a couple of nights a week but it is generally not our scene. We also experienced an annoying amount of flies while sitting outdoors in the restaurant or pool area. We loved the gym and wet area of the spa. Both are very well done. We also loved the short hiking trails that you can access behind the spa. The resort offers a free shuttle to Loreto, a few times a day which is great. We didn’t need a car. The town of Loreto didn’t feel overrun with tourists. It was small but nice and we discovered Loreto Isla..a small restaurant with the best, freshest fish. We also found the very best guacamole at Palapays. For water, the resort purifies it but we recommend buying bottled water. I left my three swim suits at home but was saved by the good selection of bikinis in the resort’s market. We were celebrating our 1-year anniversary and found the resort and. Loreto very romantic. It is a quiet, relaxing spot.

- “As Always, Villa Del Palmar is Excellent!”

Villa Del Palmar Loreto is a beautiful resort. The staff is friendly, helpful, polite. They bend over backwards to make your stay a pleasant one. This is a relatively new resort in the Villa Group’s fleet, and there is not much guest traffic here yet, so if quiet and laid back is what you’re looking for, this is the place. They offer a free shuttle into the town or Loreto 3 times a day, and a convenient airport shuttle as well. If you want a beautiful place to stay in Loreto, this is the place!

- “Wonderful experience in a beautiful location”

This resort, the fourth we have visited in the Villa Group, is our favorite. The accommodations exceed the Villa Groups high standards and the new spa is wonderful. The location is remote but there is a shuttle between the resort and Loreto three times daily. This resort isn’t for someone who wants the nightlife and activities of Cabo, but it is a wonderful experience. The sports activities include snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding and hiking right at the resort. For someone used to seeing a few stars because of ambient light and pollution, the night time sky is amazing. However, the most amazing thing about the resort is the staff. Without fail, the staff seemed to really care if we were enjoying our stay, and went out of their way to accommodate our requests. We will definitely be returning to this resort.

8 Great Underwater Scuba trips in Los Cabos

When you have a first hand experience with the wonders of the aquatic world, its a memorable event that you will treasure for the rest of your life. An extreme activity like this, will thrill the enthusiasts of this sport here in Los Cabos. This part of Baja has many spots where adventurers can enjoy an unforgetable underwater excurtion. When you are in Los Cabos for a week you must see at least one of these 8 Scuba Dive spots

-Land’s End is an attraction for advanced ocean divers, because in this place strong currents and thermals are reported. Mantas, whale sharks and sea lions have been spotted in this area, as well as turtles, sardines and green jacks. Travelers can pay a visit at the shipwreck that is located southeast of the rock.

-A good challenge for an “Open Diver master level” is Neptune’s Finger in Los Cabo Bay. In this rocky substrate, your underwater adventures can lead you to find sponges, sea fans, octopus, schools of barracudas and other species. This natural formation takes its name due its shape, that it looks like a finger pointing up to sky.

- Santa Maria Bay (20-60 feet) is the paradise of subaqueous photographers. They can find in this location eels, lobsters, coral rods and tropicals fishes of all hues. It also has many sandy channels between the coral formations, making this a breathtaking landscape under the sea.

- Gorda Banks is considered as one of the prime submarine landmarks. This submerged challenge is located eight miles off San Jose del Cabo and under 110’ to 130’ of water. Only the most experienced can reach this marine dive-place, due the depth and the occasional currents. Once they have arrived there, they will be able to appreciate whirlpools of jack, hammerheads, bull sharks, and school of tunas among other species.

- North Wall, also known as “Las Cuevas”, is considered a good place for beginners but even dive masters can enjoy this relaxed zone. This spot count with varied topography of shallow sand areas where you can find garden eels, puffers, triggers and many other reef fish.

- Cabo Pulmo is considered a rival of Gorda Banks as the best place to practice Scuba Diving. It is regarded as a National Marina Sanctuary, because is the only living coral reef in the western coast of North America. This is home of many species of fishes, some of them can’t be found in another parts of world. Here visitors can appreciate loggerhead, hawksbill, olive Ridley or leatherback sea turtles, together a wide variety of invertebrates, birds and mammals.

- Chileno Reef is another good option for less experienced divers, due its protected finger reef. It has 40’ to 80’ of depth and stands 1/2 mile from shore. Invertebrates as Starfishes, Flower Urchins and Hydroids, call it home. Seahorses and stone scorpion fish could be observed too, although from time to time, other species like large sea bass and nurse sharks pay a visit to its shallow and calm waters.

- Pelican Rock is also known as Anegada Rock. For resorts, is one of the favorite places to advanced divers tours. Its depth ranges from 15 to 130+ feet. Visitors can appreciate a sandfall at 90’. A wide range aquatic life forms as spots rays, reef sharks, surgeon fish, hawkfish, gobies and blennies can be found here. This is an excellent night dive area and the favorite for all underwater photographers and videographers!
